Houston Choral Showcase is the longest performing mixed community choir in the Houston area, originally formed in 1932. The group performs choral arrangements in a variety of popular styles such as pop, jazz, swing, gospel, and Broadway. Not prepared to let students have all the fun, this is the only show choir for adults in Houston, and one of only two such groups in Texas.
Just as comfortable at a small dinner for retirees or in front of a hundred thousand lively revelers at a major holiday event, Houston Choral Showcase performs in a wide variety of settings. The choir has sung at public and private events all over the Greater Houston area (and occasionally beyond), and even appeared, albeit briefly, on the "America's Got Talent" TV show.
The volunteer singers of Houston Choral Showcase are an interesting and diverse mix of people from a multitude of backgrounds and professions. There are teachers, lawyers, technicians, Realtors, bankers, and business owners, to name a few, and ages to span multiple generations. As varied as they are, however, these singers are united by a love of music and performing.
Houston Choral Showcase has two seasons per year (January-June and August-December). Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings, and performances are generally April-June and November-December. Singers who are selected at audition and choose to join the choir should plan to remain committed through to the end of the performance season.
