Museum Visit (Afternoon): Photographing the Fire Museum of Houston

We are making a visit to one of Houston's smaller museum venues, the Houston Fire Museum.  Come see the 1937 Chevrolet Pumper, 1895 Ahrens Fox steamer and two centuries of fire history.

This is an unusual Friday event, the Museum is small and Saturdays are reserved for children's parties.  They are not open Sundays.

Group Limited to 25 Photographers

Due to the venue size, group size is being limited to 25 people.  Flash is ok, but no tripods.  If enough people join the waiting list, we have been invited to do a 2nd group in the afternoon.  Our visit will be from 10am to 12 noon (or so).

About the Museum

Downstairs there are treasured Antique Apparatus exhibits such as a 1937 Chevrolet pumper, 1895 Ahrens Fox horse-drawn steamer, a 19th century hand powered pumper, and 1938 REO fire truck.

Upstairs is a restored Watch House and The Hopkins Collection, a prize collection of eighteenth to twentieth-century fire service artifacts. The Locker Room has been converted into a decade-by-decade exhibit of artifacts of American History.

Entry and Parking

This is a pay-at-the-door event:
Adults: $5.00
Seniors: $4.00
Children: $3.00

Avoid a long wait by bringing your entry fee in cash, please.

Parking Access: There is no designated parking lot for Museum visitors, however parking is available along Milam and Hadley Streets during regular Museum hours. If arriving by bus, the driver may drop-off and pick-up in our private drive designated "Bus Parking Only."

Special Note From The Museum

No food or drinks are allowed. Flash and photography is ok, but no tripods. Because of the sensitive condition and age of the artifacts at the Museum, hands-on activities are only allowed on certain exhibits or in certain areas marked by hands-on activity signage. Advise children that museums are places where quiet voices are appropriate, running is discouraged.

Really nice and interesting place to visit. There was a lot to photograph and several challenges with the lightening. I got some good shots .

Joe, Great tip on taking a bottle of water. I was glad I had it when I finished. Also thank you for setting up a 2nd event. I really enjoyed.

Joe, where is parking for the Museum?

Always check the email from the night before. It usually includes parking info. You may need to adjust your meetup settings so you receive organizer email. Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I just now noticed it.

Folks get cranky with me because I often collect the event entry fee in advance. But when I don't collect in advance, we tell the location that there will be 25 people, and then 6 people cancel 4 hours before. :( keep in mind, if you change your RSVP to not going with less than 24 hours notice, it doesn't give the person on the waiting list time to plan to attend -- so they end up getting a no-show and that's not terribly fair to them. Be sure and check the RSVP policy folks. If you change your RSVP with less than 24 hours notice, it turns into a noshow.
