Class: Introduction to Miksang Photography with Denise Bossarte

Miksang, or “good eye” in Tibetan, is a process of learning to synchronize mind and body, allowing one to open to the world without labeling or evaluation.

ABOUT MIKSANG

The first level of training in Miksang contemplative photography purifies our visual perception by working directly with the elements of the visual field: color, light, form, and space. No previous photographic experience is necessary.

ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTOR

Meet certified Miksang trainer, Denise Bossarte and see what this discipline is all about.

ABOUT THE CLASS

We will meet in the upstairs meeting room at Becks Prime on 19th Street. Beck's lets us use their meeting room for free when everyone orders a meal. So grab dinner and head upstairs to find a seat. The room is only large enough to seat 20 people, secure your seat by making your paypal payment.

ABOUT PAYMENT

See the group's Payment FAQ Page before posting comments or questions. Please pay before midnight the day you RSVP. Thanks.

It was a really interesting meeting. I saw the sun shining through a ginger leaf reflecting a bar from my iron fence. Of course, I had to take my first Miksang photo.

Awesome! Sounds like your Miksang eye was open and seeing the beauty in your own yard. Please feel free to post to this class to share. :)

Oh, sorry, Joe! Thought you knew. Guess we could have extended the invite at dinner, but didn't think about it. Sorry again...

Betty are you going to post some of the photos from last night? Would love to see them if you got shots of the super moon rising. I will be out tonight.

I'd love to come from this, but I'm visiting from the UK and can't pay the fee via my UK paypal account, do I have any options (i.e. pay cash on the door?).

  • Gary S.

Any reason to bring a camera along to this meetup?

Awesome! Miksang is a great tool to have at your disposal. I love the way it helps me think. Can't wait for Miksang 3! If you haven't taken it, or are just curious, this is the class for you. Beginners are really great at this, so go and learn how to really 'see.'

Can i pay at the Venue ?

    July 22, 2014

    • Joe L.

Harsh M, check the RSVP FAQ (hyperlink in the event description). Look for the heading "Why can't I just pay when I get there?"

      July 22, 2014

  • Paula

So happy to hear that this event has moved to a larger venue. I will be landing at 3 @ IAH and will get there as soon as I can. Thanks Joe.

Sorry, I would love to be there but have made other plans for that time. Wish I had had more lead time. Still plan to attend the Sept class. Waiting for registration information. Thanks.

    July 22, 2014

  • Joe L.

Good news! We have moved to a much larger venue and can now hold up to 60 people. Everyone on the waiting list is now "Yes"! Please check back on your RSVP if you still need to pay. Thanks.

Hi Wait List.....I am lucky enough to have gotten into Denise's class for June. I had signed up for the intro class because I didn't think her June class was going to "Make"...and that I'd have to wait to take the actual class after this intro. I am really having a great time learning "the Miksang way" of looking at things around me to photograph (and see)!!!! So I am changing my status from going to this introduction to Miksang, to not going (and forfeiting my payment) so that someone on the wait list will be able to attend. This is worth your time.

Would it be ok if I pay at the class?

    1 · June 3, 2014

    • Joe L.

We've tried that many times. I know you are totally good for it, but then there are folks that want to pay when they get there ... and then they noshow leaving people on the wait list. :(

      June 4, 2014

      It's fine. No problem.

  • Beth M.

I was actually going to take the whole weekend course in May but my schedule didn't work. Is this just an explanation of it?

    2 · June 3, 2014

    • Denise B.

This will be an introduction to Miksang, not the full workshop. It is an introduction to the approach taken with this type of photography, a description of the logistics for the full Miksang workshop, and a sharing of images that students have taken in previous workshops to give the audience an idea of the work you would do in the actual workshop. A taste to wet your appetites for the full workshop experience!
