HoustonPhotowalks and "money"

From: Joe L.

Responding to some comments and emails about "money" after posting this month's photowalk: is extremely financially transparent, we were the first photog group to publish our Money reports to members on the home page.  Our budget comes from sponsorships, class fees and Amazon.  Its only a few cents here and there, but you can feed an elephant if you have enough peanuts.

Sometimes events require us to pay a little money (rent venues, donations to get special treatment or access, etc).  And sometimes we ask members to share the cost of these activities.  Whenever possible, we ask members to pay the fee directly to the venue -- but sometimes the venue requires a single lump sum. HPW will collect the money on their behalf, then I pay with my credit card.

PLEASE don't get cranky if an event costs a few bucks.  Most events at HPWs are free, see you at the next one.

PLEASE don't ask to pay "when you get there".  I can't really carry $500 in small bills in my pockets during a photowalk.  :)  And collecting money means we start the photowalk late.

PLEASE don't suggest you are unhappy with how we are "handling money".  The group volunteers do an insane amount of work setting up events ... for only 4 free lunches per year.

PLEASE note: if you send me a cranky email or post an unfriendly comment about "money", it may go somewhat politely unanswered.  ;)
