Houston Science Fiction / Fantasy Writers Message Board › Hacktastic lines

I was looking through one of my old books yesterday, and came across one line that almost made me shudder. The exact quote is "Right then and there I decided we needed a new word to describe the state after you've reached exhaustion but had to keep going on automatic pilot."
I can't decide which I like better, the oblique criticism of the writer's thesaurus, or that he answered his own question at the end of the sentence. Maybe he ran out of metaphors? The quote is from one of the old Doom books (Hell on Earth by Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver) I bought as a teenager. Of course, I'm semi-scared that this line was intentionally cheesy, but I'll have to read the rest of the book to find out. Does anyone else have any favorite hacktastic lines that they've read or wrote? |

Ah, geeze. Brain melt. I was just reading some tacky paranormal romances to. That kind of cheese tends to be scattered all through those books. Yeah, Dafydd ab Hugh and IMNSHO David Drake are great for that sort of cheese in the SF line.
I'll finish my word count for the day (NaNoWriMo ate my brain.) and see what I can dig up in a quick pass through of whatever is scattered on the floor near my computer. I don't *even* want to talk about the cheesey schmaltsy stuff I've put into documents. But thank you for asking. |
