Workshop: Medical Concepts for Genre Fiction

We have a panel of medical experts presenting slides and hands-on demos on the following topics:

- Basics of Ailments and Injuries in Fiction
- Orchestrating a Medical Disaster
- Medications and Poisons
- Trauma and EMS
- Forensic Pathology

Seating is limited at this venue. Respect the RSVP count. Please bring a folding chair.

WARNING. This workshop will contain actual and simulated depictions of injury, violence, and death. Please be aware that all participants should be prepared to sign a waiver. Wear clothes you are willing to get messy. This event is for adults 18 and over only.

    Citizens' Police Academy (CPA):
    The Citizens’ Police Academy speakers provide lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on activities for Academy participants. COURSE CURRICULUM
    Each week, a different discipline or area of HPD is presented such as: Houston Emergency Center (police dispatch), Bomb Squad, SWAT Detail, Hostage Negotiations, Shoot-Don’t Shoot training exercises, Criminal Prosecutions, Mounted Patrol Division, and Helicopter Division. Citizens also participate in the department’s Ride-Along program.

    ACADEMY COST, DATES, AND LOCATION
    Cost: ALL CLASSES ARE FREE!
    Dates: The Citizens’ Police Academy involves a 33-hour block of instruction, consisting of a three-hour class, every Thursday for 10 weeks. The times of the class are usually 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. We now accept applications for fall 2013.

    Fall Session: September 12 - November 14.
