Editing Workshop for Fiction Writers

  • Oct 26, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • Dominick's Bungalow

Do you have at least one novel that has the first draft mostly complete or already done?

Take this workshop to learn:

• How to revise your first draft

• How to self-edit your final draft--and why you should

• How to prepare your manuscript for submission to publishers

• How to choose and work with a freelance editor

• What to expect from working with an editor

We'll spend three hours on these topics.

You will receive useful checklists and worksheets, and you'll spend time working on your book, so bring your laptop or three printed chapters of your manuscript.

Spaces are limited, so please RSVP as soon as possible!

This was the most helpful of the the three workshops that I've attended. Thanks Hilary.

My three stars are due solely to the distance from my home. I would give the workshop 4 1/2 stars otherwise. Great group.

Wow, what a compatible group and skilled leader. Butter, butter. :-) Now, would any of you like to join me in a reciprocal relationship (you read my stuff, I read yours)? My WIP is ~47,000 words and I need feedback on what works and what doesn't. I prefer hard science fiction. Please reply here or to me at [masked]. Thanks.

Also bringing hardcopy so would like a printed packet. But glad to print out an e-mailed packet and save you the trouble.

Sorry, I didn't realize you had to have a novel already written to attend the workshop. i don't. Didn't mean to hog a spot for a few days.
How to revise, and how to pick and editor would have been my top topics.

Another question... what one, two, or three points or questions do you especially hope the workshop will cover?

    October 18, 2013

  • Hilary R.

Hi everybody! I have a question for you.... of the five bullet points listed above, which one(s) are you most excited about or interested in? :-)

    October 17, 2013

  • Kristin R.

So the project that I have that's ready for editing is not sci fi... is that ok?

We don't have to bring the printed copies if we have a laptop, right?

    October 11, 2013

  • Ben M.

    Thanks I will

I have a feature length screenplay ( 70) pages and want to convert it to a novel. Could this workshop be something I can attend? I'm sure I would benefit from it but don't want to take up the space for someone who is farther along with their work.

    • Hilary R.

I'll be offering the workshop again in perhaps 6 months, so I recommend coming to that one once your novel's first draft is done :-)
