Workshop: Websites and Blogging

  • Mar 8, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

If you don't have a website of your own to promote your work, you probably need one—and it's easier than you think. Daniel Clark will demonstrate every step required to go from zero to fully-customized-website in this afternoon workshop. Learn how to buy a .com address, sign up with a web hosting company and install the Wordpress blogging platform. We'll spend time learning how to use and customize Wordpress to make it your own, and how to connect it to any presence you might already have on Facebook or Twitter. Don't want to own your own domain and buy hosting? We'll cover setting up a free blog at Wordpress.com, too.

We'll even cover a bit of affiliate marketing, creating those special links to sites like Amazon to earn you commissions on the books you recommend (even your own, if you've got any!)

Daniel will demonstrate all this on a live website with a real .com address and hosting. If you would like the site being demonstrated to be *yours*, tell us when you RSVP. Daniel will set up the .com, the hosting, the site, and everything you need to get started, then turn it over to you at the end of the workshop. There is no charge for this aside from the cost of the domain name (the .com address) and the cost of the hosting ($6.95/month for 12 months, $5.95/month for 24 months or $4.95/month for 36 months - billed up front from Bluehost, or you can choose an alternative hosting company). You'll need to provide a valid credit card (which will be shared with nobody but the registration & hosting provider). Questions about how this will work? Please ask!

Did anyone take notes that they would be willing to share?

Daniel gave out a handout. I took notes but I doubt if they would make sense without having seen the presentation. Also might not be legible. You're welcome to look at them. I'll bring a copy of the handout which has the bottom line info to the meeting tomorrow. It was a dense excellently presented session.

Just wanted to thank Dominick for his hospitality and Daniel Clark for a marvelous training session. I was able to follow along and create my site during the class! I had no idea it could be so easy and that WordPress was so powerful. Daniel is an AWESOME teacher.

So thanks to them, I have a new site (kevindward.com) that I will develop a little each day. There is nothing in it now, but that will change soon.

THANKS AGAIN, and I look forward to becoming active in the group.

Sorry, I've already departed. I saw the side gate (and noticed the sign farther in; do you hold concerts back there?), but I'm not a trespasser, so I didn't explore. Maybe someone took copious and detailed notes that I could obtain...?

I stopped by and knocked a couple of times, but no one answered. Did the workshop move?

Sorry for the late notice, but I will not be able to attend after all. Surprise busy Saturday. Sounds like a good one.

Really wanted to make this one, but I had a conflict come up that I can't get out of. Sorry for the late response.
