Bet on the horses, have dinner and watch a concert - PAY Restaurant Now

PLEASE SEE PAUL's comments on the event.

At Sam Houston Race Park (SHRP), we will watch the quarter horses race, and listen to a free concert after the races.

Many requests are to sit in the restaurant, rather than going general admission. For $28 you get admission, a program, reserved seat in the restaurant, buffet dining including non alcohol beverages and the concert. Alcohol beverages are for sale.

PAUL SMITH is Hosting our seating in the restaurant: To sit in a Zoomer section at the restaurant call Mark Smith, SHRP at[masked] (between 9-5) now to pay by credit card and mention the Zoomers. Your ticket will be at Will Call.  (If you decide to come at the last minute and pay at the door, you can sit in the restaurant but may not sit with the Zoomers depending on what the restaurant can do at that point.)

No Host yet for General Admission: if you don't want to sit in the upper level restaurant there is general admission for $6 but no guaranteed seating in that area or for the concert, plus you will not be with the other zoomers.  If desired, someone  needs to host that group. (Pam recommends to go for the restaurant)

Thanks to Paul Smith for volunteering to host the restaurant so if you are running late or need to speak or help navigating then you can give him a call at [masked]-5665.

Those of us that showed up had a great time. I thought the concert was while dinner was going on, but it was after the races.... too late for me. Anyways, I had fun.

We stayed for concert, left about 11:45. Kevin Fowler put on a great show, didn't realize he had such a sense of humor in his music lyrics. It was his birthdayvyest. and his daughter (whom he wrote a song abt. entitled "My Greatest Mistake") went on stage and presented him a cake....very sweet. We all sang Happy Birthday :).

For future reference, the concert started after the final race which was 10:30pm and, I'm told, finished about midnight. None of us stayed (that I'm aware of). I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who did the general admission experience and how you think that would work for future group outings.

I'm sorry if I created problems. I just spoke with Mark. Here's the plan. Those eating in the restaurant will pay $25 AT THE GATE and then ask for the Zoomers meet up group when you get to the restaurant. You will not get a program or free soft drinks (the $3 difference) so buy a program on the way up if you want one (I expect there will be several that we can share). No table reservation (10 minimum) so we may or may not all get to sit together.

No one has stepped up to be focal point for the general admission group. At this time, y'all are on your own. Sorry.

As you know, Shelva, who was organizing this event, can't make it. I volunteered to host the restaurant portion of the gathering so I'm going to try to answer some questions and clarify what's happening. There are two areas, dining room ($28) and general admission ($6). Apparently, different people want different experiences. We're still looking for a volunteer to host the general admission group. This is a real simple job. Just be there on time and put up a sign so that people can find you and then we'll get together at a predesignated spot after the races for the walk to the infield and the concert. Give me your phone number so that we can communicate if needed - I promise I'll lose it after the event. You might want to do name tags.

I haven't heard anyone talk about the entertainment and thought you might want to know.

This Saturday, the 11th, the entertainment is Kevin Fowler:

I was on vacation for over a week. The Manager of SHRP and I have been playing phone tag. We finally were able to work out the details. You have a choice of the experience you want to have. If you want the upper level restaurant seating then call Mark Smith and pay the $28 for that. If you prefer to do general admission then it's $6. I need someone to help with either spot as it appears we have interest in both experiences.

I have to go out of town and won't be able to make it on Saturday. Paul Smith has agreed to help and anyone else who would like to help host is invited to do so just let me know so I can post your name. Thanks
