A night shot at the "National Mall"

Bill Cooper is putting together a night shot at the "National Mall" in Washington D.C. on Saturday October 20th. We will meet at the Greenbelt station at 2:00 pm. There is no cost to park at the Metro Station on weekends. We'll take the metro to the Smithsonian. For the ones who would rather drive to D.C. we'll meet at the Smithsonian at 3:00 pm.
The problem: In order to use a tripod we have to have a permit only one permit is required for a group. In order to get a permit their is a cost of $100 per group of ten, $50 for the permit fee and $50 for the location fee. I will buy the permit with my own money, and I'll ask everyone who comes to divide up the cost of around $10. For 11 to 30 people the cost is $150.
I would like to ask everyone who intends to go please RSVP so I'll have an idea of how many people intend to come. my email is [masked], my cell is[masked]

I will be coming to the Smithsonian directly and need to know at which Smithsonian location will everyone meet. I assume that it will be near the Smithsonian metro stop but would like to confirm. Thanks.

some of us will meet at the Green belt metro station at 2 pm. by time everyone gets together and take the train to the Smithsonian it will be around 3 then wait for late comers. Being that it's still light out we' ll be able to take photos of the sunset. The best time to shoot night photos is just before it is totally dark, some light in the sky

i have done it many times with tripod. as far as i know, only the Capitol and the white house area requires a permit, if you are on and off the mall area and the monuments side, a permit is not required. I hope this helps

I think that there is a distinction between individual photographer and a group with the latter requiring permit.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
