Breakneck Ridge – Mount Taurus loop hiking or snow shoeing - A level

Breakneck Ridge – Mount Taurus loop   A level outing

On the first day of winter, a nine to ten miles loop with some elevation will take us along the Wilkinson and Breakneck Bypass trails up to the Breakneck Ridge, along the Notch trail to Mount Taurus (Putnam highest point) and back along the Undercliff trail, offering several magnificent views of the Hudson River and of the Highlands.

Adequate winter clothing and foot wear, spikes or crampons for secure and safe traction on ice, and / or snow shoes depending on snow cover and conditions, are required.

Contact hike leader for detailed information: Jean-Claude Fouéré [masked].

Upon scouting out the terrain today I ask each participant to bring micro-spikes or crampons and snow shoes to handle the snow and the ice on the trails. Notice that the snow conditions may change in the next couple of days. We will meet at 8:30AM on Saturday at the Stony Point parking area, hike along the Washburn trail up to Mount Taurus, down to the Breakneck Brook, then check out Breakneck Ridge trail and decide if we wish to go back along the Breakneck Bypass and Wilkinson trails.

Let me know by to morrow Friday 6:00PM if you plan to join.

Are dogs welcome? I have two young labs that are full of energy, but are very good.

Sorry Jean-Claude, not on a Saturday before Xmas. Have to have the showroom open for the kayaking Christmas shoppers.
