Begin your New Year on the Right Foot--Hike the Palisades Park Ridge

Traditions continued.

Nothing clears your head better that a brisk hike on a clear day. The plan is to either carpool from Stop & Shop parking lot in Tarrytown at 12:15 and drive to State Line Lookout in the Palisades Park. If the weather does not want to cooperate..we will modify our plan. Moderate hike, flat, no hills about 4 miles loop or you can continue to make it longer. Located in northeastern Bergen County, New Jersey, the Parkis part of the more than 100,000 acres of parklands and historic sites managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. (For information about the parklands and historic sites managed by the Commission in New York State, please click here.) The land in the NJ Section was the first that the Commission acquired after its creation in 1900 by the states of New York and New Jersey. The Commission had been formed to prevent the defacement of the famous Palisades of the Hudson by a handful of large stone quarries then in operation. DOGS ARE ALLOWED

nice friendly group - there was a lot of climbing ( mostly in step form) both up and down overlooking a cliff without the protection of a barrier. The path was a little muddy in places, and strewn with leaves.... I did not come prepared for that and did not wear my hiking shoes expecting a 4 mile loop on a flat path. Thanks, nevertheless! It was a very nice way to start off the new year!

What a great day! Sunny, warm! It was great to see old, familiar friends and meet new friends.......now some of my longtime friendsmust have had a wee bit the night befre to join us but we carried on....I did the first part and start back when I realized the steps were going to be a challenge for me. A special thanks to Pauline for going back with me. Oddly, we found a lot to chat about. I wish you all a Happy Healthy New Year!

Not one in ten New Year's Day is so nice for a hike. Without ice and snow, we were able to hike down the trail to Peanut Falls. Four of us (plus Lulu) continued south along the river and then up another way to form a loop, while others went back along 9W, respecting the limited daylight hours. Several from both parties met afterwards at Black Bear Inn for sustenance and libations. Lulu stayed in the car and was served hot chicken bites to tide her over while she waited for us.
