Ruth's Choice~Narrow River Narragansett RI

  • Aug 25, 2012 · 11:30 AM

All kayaking trips in Rhode Island are subject to changed based on weather. You will be placed on a waiting list and added manually until August 15th. I cannot be assured of communications available at the campsite. If you surprise us and come, hey great! However, do not complain if we cancel and you do not hear about it.

Some what projected details:

Level 2 Participants should be able to: Paddle 6 miles in a day. Perform a wet exit. Maintain a heading for short distances without the use of a rudder. Turn a kayak using forward and reverse sweep strokes. Or it can turn into Level Six if you try to ride the surf... Narrow River. Helmets are strongly recommended if you plan on surfing in your kayak. Changes and cancellations to trips will be posted on the flatwater message board. Please check the board before leaving for any trip. To ensure parking it is suggested that you arrive at the put-in before 9:30 am. We are meeting at the beach, not the put-in. When launching, put-in and paddle to the right, after a few miles you will see the beach at the mouth of the river. This is a club event and open to flatwater and Blackstone paddlers, sea kayakers, white water boaters. Bring a lunch, sunscreen and plenty of water. Narrow River Narragansett RI Directions: Take 95 South to exit 9 (a left exit) towards Newport/S. County. Merge onto Rt. 4 South. Turn slight right onto Tower Hill Road. Turn left onto Bridgetown Road (at large tower). Turn slight right onto Middlebridge road. Approximately a mile and half-mile up on the left will be Pollock Street. Turn and follow to the parking area. N[masked] W[masked] Our leaders provide directions as a courtesy to paddlers however, you are responsible to refer to a map and familiarize yourself with the trip location.

We actualy did this run earlier in the week. It was a bit tough to paddle against the out going tide but i have paddled the Hudson under more difficult times.

If launch is planned at 11:30, we don't really need to arrive at the put-in before 9:30, do we? At any rate, hope to see you there!

Ruth Ann, I'll be arriving that morning and would like to join you on this paddle. I'll keep in touch with Vikki by phone that morning. See you!
