Plan and map out a new form and structure for future HV Atheists Meetups

The purpose of this Meetup, I suggest will be to map out a form and structure for our subsequent meetings, charter/purpose, assessment of members’ goals, locations, perhaps engaging group activities, possibly a speaker, even informal bylaws.

Additional suggested discussions:

What’s the “philosophical” basis of atheism?

Is merely not being religious, enough?

Are you a proselytizer?

Do you keep your 'religion' secret?

Have you experienced prejudice?

What brought you to atheism, what philosophical backdrop have you developed in support of it, if any.

Do you have any 'heretical' atheist ideas?

"Politics and religion" the big two no-nos of casual conversation :-))

Coffee, Cookies, soda and other refreshments supplied.

We hope this to be a relaxed, good spirited, engaging, open minded brainstorming get together.

Hudson Valley Humanists are having a party today, Saturday, June 22, at the Ulster County Pool Complex next to the Ulster County Fairgrounds, 249 Libertyville Road, off Route 299 west of Wallkill River Bridge at west end of village. Starting at 1pm. This may signal the re-emergence of this organization. Second and fourth Sundays non-theist celebrations are held at Unison Art Center in New Paltz--note, cancelled this Sunday. And we are meeting on Monday evening.

Lots of non-theist activity. I plan to attend the Unison Sunday morning celebration in future, I'm very concerned about how atheists can build new institutions to sustain community, and I think this is a part of that. Do we need humanist as well as atheist organizations? Maybe. Let's keep going to see what develops. We may all become vital parts of a vibrant non-theist community in the region.

We're starting out at my house, 6 miles north of New Paltz. From Thruway, go through New Paltz, take route 32 north for 6 miles, turn left at Tillson Road (see Postage Inn on right) then left at end onto Springtown Rd. Two houses down, on right.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
