Trail Walk

If you're not hiking in the Hudson Valley during the Fall, you're wasting your residency and it should be revoked! :-)   Minnewaska is a beautiful park and we should be into a good time of year to see the changing colors.    We'll set a leisurely pace and try to stop for a few breaks but I expect it'll be a bit longer than some of our other previous hikes.   So, make sure to bring some water and a snack.   For the health of equines sharing the trails, Minnewaska requires a clean health permit for all equines and there is a small fee for that per animal.  I can't access the site at the moment to find the cost, but for this hike, I'll need to pass on a very small per person charge to cover that.  I would expect it'll be on the order of $3/person and have initially set that as the rate.  I'll update it as soon as I can determine what it should be.  I'll collect it the day of the walk.

Note that Minnewaska has an $8/vehicle parking charge.    We can try to coordinate people meeting outside the park and carpooling in to reduce costs.

We will be parking in the lower lot.   Most people will be coming to the park from the East.   You will pass the Main Gate entrance and proceed to the next entrance which is the lower parking area.

It was a longer hike time-wise and, apparently length-wise, but for some reason, even with the frequent breaks, it didn't seem as long or physical as some previous hikes which were shorter. Maybe it was meeting all the new people along the way, of the fresh cool Fall air, or sharing the hike with a good core of members.

It was fun, starting from the lower lot makes the hike a lot longer, which was nice to discover as I just circling the lake was starting to be too short for me. I completely underestimated the interest other hikers would take in the Donkey's though. We ended up having many rest breaks so people could stop and admire them, take pictures, and ask questions. It was a lot of fun.

Just got a call from my daughter, she misjudged how long it will take to finish cleaning her room. I'm going to play it by ear but we will likely be late, might try the same thing Genny is doing and try to intercept you at the top parking lot.

I won't be able to leave until close to 10:00 which gets me there around 11:20 or so. I can't imagine I won't be able to catch up with you along the trail but just want to be clear which one you guys are taking.

Oops, hit return too soon. So, I know how things go and there may be a ton of foliage driven traffic so I will check when I pay for parking to see if you have gone by. Hopefully texting will work and I can contact you

Yea, I'm trying to schedule our trail walks with more lead time so that people have a better chance of planning to come. If it fills up with people before you decide, I'll make room for you.

Hi All. Minnewaska has an $8/vehicle parking charge. For those who don't have a full car, we can plan to meet outside the park and carpool in to cut down on these costs. There is a park and ride at the NYS Thruway exit on Rt 299 that would be a good place to meet.
