DonkStock 2013!

  • Oct 19, 2013 · 3:00 PM
  • Donkey Park

This is a social event to cele-Bray-te what a great group of short-eared members we have. We'll get the long ears involved somehow, but mostly we'll just be hanging out, eating, drinking, playing and enjoying each other's company. It gets dark early now so there'll be a campfire.

Note: we still have a few openings, so now that the regulars have had a chance to sign up, I'm lifting the following original restriction:  This year will be a bit of experiment and so I'm going to limit attendance to 20 and first priority will be to those who've attended at least one event. If you've not yet had a chance to participate, let me know and I'll add you to the waiting list.

I'll ask each of you to bring something, but we're still working out the details and I expect this description will be updated several times, so stay tuned.

This morning I went to get paper plates, disposable cups and disposable utensils but I just saw that somebody else already grabbed those... We'll bring a quiche! :)

    October 18, 2013

    • Steve S.

By the way, is the quiche vegetarian or does it have meat? I don't care, I just want to be able to add something to the vegetarian category if so. For now, I've put it there since most quiches seem to be meatless.

      October 18, 2013

    • NATHALIE

      Yes, it's vegetarian! It's a spinach quiche.

To make it easier for people to find updates on what you're bringing, please post any future updates on the discussion page for this event: Click on "Discussions" above, then select the "Items needed for DonkStock 2013" topic. Or, copy-n-paste this link in your browser: http://www.meetup.com/Hudson-Valley-Donkey-Walkers/boards/thread/38901662/0/ . The first post is the one I'm keeping updated with items to bring.

For future reference, there doesn't seem to be a way to get to discussions via the phone app. This might have contributed to some of the confusion. Something to keep in mind for next time we try to organize something on meetup.

I guess not everyone reads comments on discussions. There were people posting what they are bringing. I got grapes , pineapple, apples and few pears .I am planning to cut those fruit on the spot.I also got Heinz yellow mustard and Ketchup.

I'll bring a cake and I think I have some lawn games - bocce, lawn darts - have to look to make sure!!

    October 18, 2013

    • Steve S.

Great. I have bocce though, so don't worry about that

      October 18, 2013

    • Marge B.

If you want to get the long-ears involved, you might consider a game based on Donkey baseball but instead we could divide into two teams - each team gets a turn at bat - can hit stick-ball or something similar - then they have to grab a donkey and try to get to first base within a set period of time, perhaps 3 minutes (egg timer good for this). Each person who gets to first base with donkey in allotted time, gets a point. Team with most points wins! Just a thought!!

      October 18, 2013

  • Christina F.

Ok. So I'll bring hamburger buns and ketchup and mustard.

    October 18, 2013

    • Dace

I already sign for mustard and ketchup

      October 18, 2013

    • Steve S.

haha, yea, Christina, Dace had already grabbed the ketchup and mustard before you posted. :-) I'm trying to keep the list on the discussion board, current, so check that if you want to find something else.

    October 17, 2013

  • Christina F.

I'll bring some hamburger and hot dog buns

    October 17, 2013

    • Steve S.

Hi Christina. Rosita had already volunteered the hot dog buns before you posted. I don't think anyone volunteered yet for the hamburger buns ... stay tuned... we might need to shuffle some assignments.

Also note that since we still have a few slots let, I've opened it up to all members now-- not just those who've attended a previous event.

    October 17, 2013

  • Steve S.

For those attending, you should have received an email, but if not, please see the list of things we need that I posted on the discussion board.

  • Marge B.

Steve - should I RSVP or just show up??

    October 12, 2013

    • Steve S.

Hi Marge. Best to RSVP. That makes it easier for me to send out emails to everyone who's attending. Thanks!

    October 6, 2013

  • Laura

I know Steve needs some help organizing the food, so if anyone has any ideas of what they would like to bring, let's start organizing that now. I'm happy to help with this part. I know we'll be able to bbq.
