Get to know each other.

Here it is, the moment you've been waiting for, the official kick off of the Hudson Valley Storytellers! I've lined up the Newburgh Free Library (not sure yet if it's going to be the main library or the town branch) for at least the summer and if we have enough interest, we'll keep it going.

So let's go meet up. This first meeting will be a casual get to know each other type of thing. Say what your experience is, what you want to get out of the group, favorite authors, etc. Maybe we can share short writing samples if time allows.

Speaking of time, what would be a good time for everyone? I've got dates but hours are up in the air.

Hit the comment/discussion section and let me know. You can also email me directly at Jeff [at] hudsonvalleystorytellers [dot] com. If for some reason that email address doesn't go through, google our group name and you'll find me.

Hope to see you soon,

Wednesdays will be tough for me to make; I'm hoping maybe the day of the week will be switched up a few times so I can make a meeting. If not, I'll just lurk around the MeetUp group. :)

We've had a request for Wednesdays. Anyone else have a preference?

I don't know if I'll be able to make, I don't know when I'll be free.

Regardless, I'd like to throw out some general suggestions.

1--depending on the distance travelled by members and whether they are dining or picking up dinner before hand, plan on meeting no earlier than 7PM and no later than 8PM. Duration should be 2 hours in the extreme.

2--add a creative side to the meet and greet. Members should be urged to bring samples of their own work or other's work to be read, recited, presented or discussed. Initially, presentation per person should be kept short, 10 - 15 minutes. Followup discussion should be equally curtailed.

3--discussions of the nature of storytelling should be encouraged along with discussions of stories told.

4--meeting organizer should prepare a general agenda to keep the meet-up flowing. Members should be encourage to suggest contributions to the agenda.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
