New date due to the rain last time!
Distance is a 4 mile out and back moderate hike.
No mountains involved, but hike is steadily uphill on the way to the fall.
Hike will be led at a relaxed pace - no one will be left behind.
The trail takes us through forest with quite a variety of trees: white pine; hemlock; chestnut, red and black oak; red, sugar, and striped maple; yellow birch; and mountain laurel. Vernooy Kill Falls is at the end of the hike. The falls drop about 60 feet over Catskill shale ledges in a series of cascades! Some of the ledges impound significant-sized pools. Feel free to bring or wear a bathing suit (no changing facilities) you can get into the falls if you like.

Note: Google Maps - the supposed trailhead address (576 upper cherrytown road) doesn't seem to come up correctly on Google or Bing Maps. We will meet at the trail parking lot.
To reach the trailhead for Vernooy Kill Falls, follow Rt. 3 (Samsonville Road) from Route 209 (about 1.5 miles north of the junction of Rt. 209 and Rt. 44-55) 1.3 miles to Cherrytown Road. Turn left onto Cherrytown Road, continue for 3.6 miles to Upper Cherrytown Road. Follow Upper Cherrytown Road 3.2 miles to DEC parking area on your right.
