Hike Norrie Point

We will be walking/hiking at Norrie Point.  The walk is mostly along the Hudson, sometimes at river level, sometimes above it. There is an open area with picnic tables overlooking the Hudson at about the halfway point.

The walk is about five miles round trip with an elevation gain of only about 200 feet.

Mike has kindly offered to lead the hike since Paul is unavailable.

Mike did great job. If anyone dropped back too far, he slowed down.

Sorry for the mix-up on the meeting spot but I hope the hike itself made up for that. Since I don't have a good to see you button anymore I'll say good to see you here.

It was a very nice day. Someday we should all do it again and go back through the woods for even more river views.

Thanks for hosting Mike. I was sorry to have to leave at the half way point. I still got my 5 miles in walking to MM and I made the boat ride on the Hudson. A hike, a boat ride and margaritas at mariners a great Saturday! Thanks.

Mike, you did a great job. It was a beautiful hike, just the right combination of trail and road, the lunch spot was perfect.

Sorry for the confusion. So who is in charge of sign ups for 8/23? I want to be on that list.

    August 14

    • Dace

You just sign up, there are 11 spots available for 23-rd

      August 14

  • Mike

    Julie,
Linda Martini is not scheduled to go on this hike and is not even on the waiting list. She can only go if she joins the waiting list and her name comes up. We need to be fair to those who signed up and are waiting their turn. Let me know where you want to meet me to carpool.

    Betsy,
Enjoy your hike wherever it is.

    • Julie T.

thanks, i had not noticed. since this is a new group for me, i did not look to see who is going (i don't know anyone yet but i hope to get to know some!). for me, the shop rite parking lot is easier. i have a silver subaru hatchback, i'll park pretty far out away from the store. my cell if you need it is[masked]-3936. i'll be there by 8:30.

      August 14

  • Betsy

I dropped from this to make room for someone on the wait list... if my friend and I decide we want to hike, we'll just go on our own =)

    August 13

  • Linda M.

I live in Mdtn by the Y. If u have room for one more I'd like to join the carpool. Where would u all like to meet? Who wants to drive?

    1 · August 13

    • Julie T.

if you and i meet up in mdltn, we can drive together to montgomery to meet mike. where would you like to meet (i have a friend on courtland st, i assume you are near there)? and do you care if we go to montgomery on 211 or 84?

      August 13

  • Mike

    Julie,
If you know the village of Montgomery, there is a parking lot on Clinton St or if you know where the Shop-Rite Plaza is on Rt 208 near exit 5 off 84. Whichever is easier for you. I'd like to leave by 8:30 since it will take at least an hour to get there. I will be taking local roads to Highland to cross the Bridge.

    August 13

    • Julie T.

ok. i will try to meet up with Linda in Mdlt (I'll reply to her next) and ask if she has an opinion; i am game to go 84 or 211. will let you know.

Ok Thx Mike. Just wondering if there is a chance it will open up. Trying to plan my weekend!! Thx!!

    Linda M,
Paul set the limit on group size

    August 13

  • Judy D.

    Is this a beginner hike?

    August 13

    • Betsy

This group doesn't really do "hardcore" hikes and every hike is meant for all levels. I've never hiked Norrie but since there's no elevation, I imagine that as long as you can walk 5 miles you can do this pretty easily.

      August 13

  • Linda M.

Hi. I'm on the wait list, Mike. Was wondering why there is a wait list for a hike and if there is a chance it will open up for us. Thx!!!!

    August 13

  • Judy D.

If I get moved from waitlist I would like to carpool with someone, I live in high falls.

    August 13

  • Mike

    Julie,
You are the only one to mention carpool. I live in Montgomery . Let me know where you would like to meet (or there are places in Montgomery to leave your car) and we can carpool.

    August 12

    • Julie T.

i can come down 211 or 84. can i leave the car in a store parking lot? let me know what is convenient. will we be going on 84 to the thruway, or locally towards new paltz? that might determine the best place to meet.

      August 12

  • Mike

For some reason I am not able to reply to others comments directly so I'll do it this way.
Bob-the directions take you to a parking lot where we'll meet.
Jackie-yes this is fine for beginners.
Julie-I live in Montgomery. If you want to meet there or nearby we can carpool.

    • Julie T.

Where and when can we meet to carpool?

      August 11

  • Mike

Bob, It is pavement at the beginning and then before we get to the other end but the rest is an uneven hiking trail with some stones but a lot of roots on the trail so choose your footwear accordingly.

Betsy, OK. See you both there.

    August 11

  • Linda M.

I can't go this time but keep me in the loop for the next one

    August 10

  • Betsy

Hrm, I can't add a +1 to my RSVP, but I'll have someone with me.

    August 10

  • Bob

Is this hike on a hiking trail or on pavement.

    August 10

  • Jessica G

Have hiked part of this trail and it was great right along the river at some points. My Shepard freaked out on some of the trail so we never completed it but looking forward to trying again!

    August 3

I no longer have him and would deff not try and bring a dog with a group hike.

How did I move to the wait list if I had already signed up on July 30th?

    August 3

Again I can't reply to your comment directly Betsy so I'll say you're welcome. Now I hope the weather is good.

Do you guys ever carpool? This is my first time out with this group. I live between Port Jervis and Middletown. I'd like to meet up along the way and have company for the drive.
