This is a 5-star trip! There are NO REFUNDS unless the trip is canceled, so do not sign up unless you are sure! Our Arizona and California buddies will be joining our group again this year. This is not a beginner trip - you must already know how to kayak before going on this trip.
Once you sign up you need to send $140 To hold your spot. You can pay via paypal at [masked] or mail a check to: Andrea Zelones, 8879 Keremeos Way, San Diego, CA 92126.
This is a quasi-car camping trip but you'll have to carry your gear about a mile. You can bring an ice chest and some other luxuries. The beautiful island is a wilderness area but the campground has water and good bathrooms.
We'll spend 3 days and 2 nights camping at Scorpion Landing campground on Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands NP. While a little adventurous and not for the feint of heart, this is a world-class trip!
We will head over Thursday and will camp near the beach in Ventura at Emma Woods Ventura River Group Camp. ** Note that we ARE NOT STAYING at Emma Woods State Beach.
1) In Ventura, exit the US-101 at California Street exit, Exit 70A and go North (right) 2 blocks
2) Turn West (Left) on Main street
3) Go west on Main Street until you hit the Ocean and follow the signs for Emma Woods Ventura River Group Camp. Do not go to Emma Woods State Beach.
On Friday, the ferry will carry us and our gear 20 miles off the mainland to Santa Cruz Island. We will spend the weekend relaxing, kayaking, spelunking (going in caves via kayak), snorkeling (optional), and hiking. The island is famous for its adventurous sea caves that can only be viewed by kayak or boat. The island also has several fun hiking trails with fantastic ocean views. We'll see dolphins and hopefully whales on the boat ride over. We'll also spot sea lions (seals) while kayaking.
Cost is $140/person which includes ferry ride, kayak rentals, camping fees, and kayak transport - it does not cover your food and gas. No refunds or transfers once paid unless the trip is canceled. Lucky, the hike leader is very experienced and has been to SCI 8 times and I have been there 6 times. We have an awesome EVERY YEAR on the island. If you've never been, join us! You'll never forgot your time on the island. Hope to see you there! Andrea
Carpools from San Diego will be set-up as needed.
