Humanism, Atheism, Rationalism, & Philosophy (HARP)
This is a group for anyone interested in Humanism, Atheism, Rationalism, & Philosophy to promote the discussion of those ideas.

All skills levels are welcome. Let’s “HARP” on thinking rationally.

HARP is mainly an atheism and humanism activism meetup group. We will try to be active in outreach and engage positively with the public.

HARP may have monthly meetings but this is not the group's main goal. At monthly HARP meetings all are welcome and the topics will range from open discussion to more guided meetings on the topics of this group Humanism, Atheism, Rationalism, & Philosophy.
HARP strives for more out and active atheism as well as informed rationalism connecting this with thoughtfully applied philosophy and positive humanism.
HARP's main mission is to be active in both inreach as well as its outreach goals.
The goal of HARP's outreach is to interact with the believing unrationally unconverted. The outreach is also to connect with the unbelieving rational individuals to let them know there is community. The inreach alludes to further informing, supporting and connecting the unbelieving rationally converted.
To me beliefs should be formed after reason and evidence, beliefs should be altered if found somewhat contradictory to reason and evidence and removed if found disconnected to reason and evidence.
Faith is the reason blindness of otherwise great thinkers, which is why I oppose faith so much. But hey, that’s just me some people don't seem to require reason and evidence for or to keep beliefs and instead just use faith thus claiming to know things they do not know nor should feel justified to believe in.

If you are highly informed, come share what you know. If you are somewhat acquainted, lets trade thinking or if any of its new to you, come get informed. I am no expert in philosophy but enjoy deep thinking and atheistic disbelief. I have worked to inform myself and wish to continue as well as help others join me in this worthy endeavor of mental freedom and hope for a faithless secular society.

I started this group because I do not seem to fit well in other groups and to meet other humanism, atheism, rationalism, & philosophy enthusiasts like me. I am looking forward to exploring the mental freedom with everybody.

HARP holds a desire to offer the opportunity to meet other like minded individuals as well as opportunities for conversation, learning, empowerment, activism, and outreach. The goal of HARP is to be a friendly and informed group.
HARP Waiver Agreement:

By joining this group and attending any event, you agree to be rational, humanistic, thoughtful, and respectful of others even in disagreements and attack thinking not people. We want to raise our arguments and not our voice, always with the goal of sharing ideas and inspiring new rational and humanistic disbelief thinking to a higher position. We welcome those who are questioning faith, or even believers who want to see the other side or join a group to challenge ideas. However, if you are a believer just remember this group is focused on unbelief we will respect you but not your beliefs but this will always be civil and not attacks.

This group may cross post or communally be involved with other groups and organizations that relate to its values. In general, one of the big focuses for this group is outreach. I want to do atheist outreach with colleges mostly. This will help with the cause and to increase the atheist presence: where it is strong to make it stronger but especially where it may have little or no presence like your college. I would like any help or ideas to assist my group HARP in its atheist crusade to take back our towns, colleges and even possibly high schools.

I like to say I am a rationalist axiological atheist. It’s not that I do not value skepticism but as a tool to minimize errors. I see skepticism as a way to protect against or remove falsehoods but I think in the unbelief community it is over emphasized from a tool to a full way of being. I do not see it as a way of being for me. Skepticism is in no way a method to bring truth or new knowledge. To me a good use of rationality is to test concepts with skeptical thinking to see if one has errors. if so, use rationalism again to clarify them and find true belief which is knowledge.

This statement is of my (Damien AtHope) choice to define as a rationalist atheist and in no way is this how others must think or define themselves to join or participate in this group.

Here are my general thoughts on what is knowledge and truth as well as their relation to one another.

What is knowledge? Justified true belief = knowledge

So evidence, information, or thought must have merits, warrants, or justifications to attach a true belief which then we can, unless shown to be in error, offer conjecture regarding its status as knowledge.

What is truth? Truth is a value judgment that we place on what we deem evidence or knowledge.

What is knowledge and truth in relation to one another? Justified True Belief = Knowledge = Truth

It is important to bear in mind that Justified True Belief, as presented here, is a generic analysis. It is intended to describe a general structuring which can absorb or generate comparatively specific analyses that might be suggested, either of all knowledge at once or particular kinds of knowledge. It provides a basic outline — a form — of a theory.

Lastly, although I consider myself a rationalist atheist and a truth seeker more than a skeptic atheist I at times may be that as well depending on the situation or question. While I am all for being a truth seeker valuing the asking of rational or reasonable questions and accepting of only rational or reasonable answers using them to provide a basic outline of justified true belief which can be held as knowledge and thus embody the concept of truth, there also is a place to pause in our judgment when in doubt thus embody a being a skeptic atheist.

As such I do not want to make it sound like truth seekers or rationalists would not say or think “I Don’t know” or not see this position as valuable or the best answer at times, because it may be. In fact asserting “I Don’t know” as an answer is valuable when we experience uncertainty because often the most rational thing to say is “I Don’t know” and if we are highly unsure, deeply uninformed, or do not know something, skepticism is a good default position. As a rationalist atheist, when in doubt, applying skepticism at this point is also a highly rational position. Certainly, it is more rational to be skeptical than trying to pretend to know something when you do not know or accept something on faith.
