Humanist Program: JT Eberhard and using reason to live wisely

JT Eberhard is our featured speaker for April. Eberhard is the
author of the popular blog What Would JT Do? as well as the co-founder of the Skepticon conference and is well known in the Freethought community for his activism on atheism and LGBT rights. JT joined the Secular Student Alliance (SSA) as the first High School specialist. During his time with SSA, JT built a program specifically tailored for teenage activists and increased the number of high school affiliations by 400%. In 2012, JT left SSA, but remains a member of their Speakers Bureau continuing his work with the secular community. Now he writes and tours the country full time.

Recently, JT was our Keynote speaker at the Winter Solstice Banquet and spoke about his experiences in the Freethought Community and its impact on his personal journey. He also reflected on positive aspects of the movement and goals we can reach for in the future. JT’s topic for April will expand on his previous topic and will discuss the importance of using reason to live wisely.

Please join us in the conference room at 12:30 pm for pizza prior to the event!

What time is he actually going to start the program tomorrow? Would like to come but I have an appt before noon and wouldn;t want to show up after 1230 and cause a disturbance for coming late.

Selina, feel free to show up when you can. The more the merrier. Introductions start at 1pm and then the speaker usually starts between 1:20 to 1:30 pm.

Is this an event where children would be welcome? I am not expecting childcare to be provided, but I want to make sure it is going to be a family friendly event.

As far as "rating" the maturity level of the meetings - probably rating the presenter is enough. Usually the Q&A reflects the atmosphere set by the presenter; also, the Q&A would be something like just being in a group of people at a public event - the audience isn't being held up as exemplars, just the lecturer. I think kids would understand that dynamic.

Having heard JT talk before, and having seen videos of his talk, I am aware of his speaking style. Charlotte loves him as well. I was mostly concerned about Duncan, but that issue has been resolved.
