Rational Mindfulness Group

Life can be so stressful—it really helps to learn and practice evidence-based techniques to manage stress and to become more compassionate. Especially for non-believers, it is important to do so in a science-friendly, rational atmosphere.

The Rational Mindfulness Group supports secular people in using scientifically-informed mindfulness and meditation practices to reduce stress, sharpen thinking, calm emotions, and enhance compassion. Our meetings combine various types of meditation, yoga (stretching), readings, and discussions. It’s a great place for both those who want to learn how to meditate and become more mindful, and for those with some experience who want to try out new techniques and meet like-minded folks.

For more information on rational, evidence-based mindfulness, see the webpage of the Humanist Mindfulness Group at the Humanist Community at Harvard.  (http://harvardhumanist.org/harvard/humanist-mindfulness-group/)

Can't make it due to headache. Looks like there will be a large turnout so one less will be unlikely to harm anything.

I've been practicing meditation for years. This group is a great idea, but I can't make it this time. Prior commitment with friends.

I am moving for the second time in four months; otherwise I would be attending more meetups. Oh, help me, Flying Spaghetti Monster!

I'm very interested in this topic but I will probably not be back from DC that Sunday (thanksgiving in DC...). I'm very interested though and will try to make the next one. I'm interested enough so that I've already started practicing mindfulness meditation as described here:
"Get Some Headspace: How Mindfulness Can Change Your Life in Ten Minutes a Day" - I think it was Richard who told me about that book.

Hi John, I've been doing the online Headspace mindfulness program for a couple of months now. Glad to see that someone else knows about it!

As some people from my home state of North Carolina would say "I've heard tell of that" as well. It will be included as a recommended reading. I reckon I've got a copy on my bookshelf ovair.

Provided my flight is not delayed, I plan to be there.

Looked at the date and thought..yes! A weekend I'm free! Checked the calendar, and no! I'm looking forward to making the next meeting.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
