This week's topic: Three views on ethics: part 1 - A virtue based approach to ethics.

Over the next 3 months we will be examining ethics from three broad perspectives. Virtue ethics, Deontological Ethics, and Consequentialist ethics.

First, Michael Riggs will present his own virtue based view, which is a descriptive form of a historically normative school of ethical thought.  He will also discuss the idea that our labling of acts as virtuous or vicious says more about our preferences than objective reality, and that adversity, far from being a tragedy, is actually necessary for the development of any virtue.  His view, being descriptive (containing no "oughts"), also has the potential benefit of promoting emotional health by avoiding the stress and anxiety that can come from normative insistence on "right" behavior.

Rationality is about the science of reasoning, and acting effectively to meet your goals. Each meetup we will hold a workshop on a relevant topic. Topics are posted about a week in advance.

Parental Warning: We are a very casual group. There is some swearing and discussion of mature issues.

Going to have to pass on this one...this is that nasty mix of everything that I hate driving in the most. Those that do go - be safe.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
