Annual Summer Picnic

HCCO will provide beverages, place settings, and charcoal for grilling as well as a table with interactive activities for kids.

Last names A-H should bring main or side dish, I-Q side dish, and R-Z dessert.

Anyone can bring any grillables that they would like to have.

*****Also: If you are willing and able, please bring a nonperishable food item of your choice (canned soup, canned veggies, peanut butter, pasta, etc) to donate to a local food pantry. A couple years ago we had enough food donations to construct a Happy Human out of them, and I'd like to do this again.*****

To volunteer to assist, they should contact Rita at [masked]

Directions:

From I-270, take State Route 161 exit (30B) toward New Albany onto E. Dublin-Granville Road. Go 1.6 miles then take the Little Turtle Way exit and turn right. Go to Old State Route 161 and turn right. Entrance is 1/2 mile on left.

Had a very nice time at the picnic! The Dogwood Shelter area is very nice, the weather was great! Thank you to everyone who helped me clean up! : )

Went to the visitor center afterward... Because my ankle hurt too much to hike... Nice center. They have a stream in back with bird feeders, so that was cool. They also have a screened tent with lots of monarch butterflies. That was cool. Blair and I checked it out

I really wish I could have made this picnic... this just happened to be the weekend my daughter was moving back onto campus for college. I intend to participate vicariously through pictures of the event if any are posted. ;-)

Props to whomever labeled the cheesecake that was "Gluten-free but has Every Other Bad Thing."

It was nice to see so many members that I'd not met before. It aslo was a nice time in general as well. A pleasant day.

Yes, thanks for a welcoming environment. It was a great first outing for us.

Sorry we won't make it. Twins woke up with runny noses. And we had a surprise visit from family with my new niece!!! Super bummed to miss as we were hoping to meet some like-minded families.

Any serious food allergies we should know about?

    August 21, 2014

    • Rita M.

Thanks for asking. It would be a good idea to label your dishes with any potential allergens/dairy/animal products, etc so that those of us who have restrictions can make an informed choice. I will bring a marker and tape/cards for labeling at the picnic. :)

Our pasta salad is not dairy free.

There is a church service going on just down the road from our shelter. If you hear hymns, you've driven too far.

This event will be held rain or shine, as we have a covered shelter.

We will bring a gluten free pasta salad, but it is not dairy free. I will check the pasta ingredients and if they have no egg or dairy I will set some aside before paresmesan is added.

I am looking for a ride to and from the HCCO Annual Summer Picnic.

I now live south of the Kingsdale Shopping Center near the intersection of Zollinger Rd. and Northwest Blvd.

I live nearby. I can take you there and back.

    Anyone bringing frisbee/hackeysack/volleyball/croquet?
It's likely to be hot, so a Super Soaker or two (or whatever the kids have these days) would be nice, too.

    August 21, 2014

    • Brian W.

Super Soakers?! I'll make sure to bring a white t-shirt for a bit of "accidental" exhibitionism" when I get wet.
