Nursing Home Good Deed

Humanists Doing Good volunteers will be heading to a local nursing home to visit with residents on a personal level and to deliver the new bingo set we purchased that arrived just after the last time we visited. We plan to visit with individuals in their rooms to learn about their personal stories and to visit with people who do not typically receive many visitors. We will also have the opportunity to paint the fingernails of some of the residents who may be interested.

We're looking for volunteers who would like to spend some time talking to the residents and volunteers who would enjoy doing some nail polish or otherwise doing something kind for some of the residents we will visit. If you would like to participate or have ideas that we may be able to carry out, please let us know.

We loved spending time with the patrons. What a great morning.

I am going to bring Nikki-my little mentee. Apparently, she loved going to visit her grandfather when he was in Palisade Nursing home. If it doesn't go well, I will cut it short and take her away...but it may go very well and since she is so inquisitive, the residents might just like her. I look forward to helping out my first time...I will bring manicure supplies and lotion, too. Can you think of anything else that would be comforting? Maybe while we are there, we can ask about needs-like homemade blankets, thick socks (since the elderly are often cold)-I'm not sure what else but we can make a list and bring the stuff back another day. Nikki is an excellent artist, maybe she can draw some pictures (on paper) to decorate their rooms?

Drawings are a great idea Laura, I bet people will love that! I think if we all bring what polish, lotion, etc that we have we should be fine!

I plan on coming! (My daughter and granddaughter did the fingernail polishing at a couple of local assisted living facilities, and it is quite popular with the ladies. We also did hand massages (with lotion) for men and women, which is also popular. I'll bring some lotion.) Look forward to seeing you guys! </:-)

Velvet and I are happy to hear you're going to be able to make it, Joan! Thanks for bringing some lotion too.

Sorry. My wife and I have a vacation to Ridgway planned this weekend.

Enjoy your trip! We were hoping that Ridgway would be a little cooler than it ended up being when we recently camped there. Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes were pretty thick.

I'll look through my old polish and see how much I can bring. :)
