Camping/Hiking the Colorado National Monument

You're invited to join us as we camp on the Colorado National Monument and do some guided hiking led by our board vice chair and also an employee at the park. We will be doing a couple short hikes during our trip. Water and toilets are available at the campground. Each site includes a picnic table, charcoal-only grill, and a parking area. Wood fires are not permitted. Each campsite is limited to 7 people, 3 tents and 2 vehicles. Dogs are not recommended since they are not allowed on hiking trails. We have to be "checked out" of our sites by 11 am on Sunday.

Dues paying members of Humanists Doing Good will receive a reduced fee of $8.00 per person to participate in this event. Nonmembers are asked to pay $10 per person. We recommend carpooling to reduce entrance fees and to reduce the number of vehicles at the campsites.

We're planning on doing some campfire spaghetti on Saturday night that everyone can partake in and it looks like Robert and Stacy plan on cooking breakfast burritos on Sunday morning for anyone who would like some.

At this point, it looks like some of us will be carpooling to the campground at 10:00 am from the Fruita side (Velvet, Jesse, Stacy & Robert so far). We'll get some things set up at the site once we arrive and before it gets even hotter. We will meet our hiking guide at the campground around 1:00 pm and from there we will head out on a series of short hikes.

To arrange carpooling, please call[masked] or email [masked]

We had a great time hiking 4 different trails, eating good grub and enjoying everyone's company. There were amazing double rainbows in the evening, a beautiful sunrise and a lot of learning opportunities. The Monument's staff were very informative.

I am so sorry to cancel at the last minute, but I had a college buddy randomly take the train from Iowa to GJ today and surprise me at work! Would it be okay if I came to the hike at Coke Ovens but didn't camp?

Hey everybody! I'm Adam, the Colorado National Monument employee who will be joining HDG on the hike/camping event tomorrow. I'm looking forward to meeting those of you I haven't yet met. As a reminder, I'd like to make sure everyone is aware that NO dogs are allowed on the Monument anywhere other than the paved areas and the campground. It's predicted to be 90+ degrees tomorrow, and leaving your dog in the car while we hike is a bad idea.

I'll plan on meeting you at the campground around 1:00pm, and can transport three other people in my car to our planned hikes. Speaking of the hikes, I think we should start at the 1-mile Coke Ovens trail (shares a Trail Head with Upper Monument Canyon). From there, we'll go to Otto's Trail (1/2 mile), and finish up at the Canyon Rim Trail (1-mile). All distances listed are for the round-trip length of the hikes.

I'll see you at the campground around 1:00pm! Thanks for joining HDG on this fun event!

Velvet and I will be bringing a roughly 5 person tent so we'll have room for a couple people. We also plan to bring some spaghetti and charcoal for the first night. If you'd like to enter the Fruita side around 10 am with us, we can carpool from Fruita and leave some vehicles at our home in Fruita. The number of vehicles we can have at the campsites is very limited. We're currently planning to have two campsites and a maximum of 4 cars present at the campsites (this is probably our biggest challenge).

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
