Cheering at Special Olympics Basketball Tournament

The Special Olympics will be holding a basketball tournament at Colorado Mesa University. We are asking our members come ready to cheer their lungs out and ask that everyone bring large signs of general encouragement for the athletes. We also encourage you to wear your yellow volunteer shirts.

We have had a lot of fun cheering at previous Special Olympics events and the athletes love the support. Five basketball courts will be in use (2 in the Maverick Pavilion, 1 above the varsity court and 2 in the student center) and we'll likely need to split up our members to cheer accordingly. We plan to initially meet at the Recreation Center Gym. Plan on parking near the athletic fields. We are unable to provide a firm ending time due to the nature of the tournament and people are welcome to come and go as they need. Late arrivals are welcome for this event and can help us have sufficient numbers at the end of the event.

I will be there at 8:15, but I can only stay for a few hours. My girl scouts are doing a cookie booth sale that day too! Btw…if anyone is interested in cookies I know a couple of little eager salespeople. :D

Not sure if I will be there at 815 but will be along....I have been to a number of these events both when I worked at the Regional Center and afterwards....They are fun and I can tell you that the folks take it seriously and do practice hard for them.....It is a hoot....Very supportive environment and event........Cheering them on is a fine idea.
