Not in Our State: Keep your abortion restrictions out of Rhode Island!

The Humanists of Rhode Island is a proud member of the Rhode Island Coalition for Reproductive Justice. Part of our job as a member organization is to turn out as many members as possible to the State House when legislation that wold restrict or expand access to reproductive services is offered for public comment.

**Abortion Restriction Hearing in House Judiciary Committee**

Join the RI Coalition for Reproductive Justice and PPV!RI as we raise our voices against five dangerous abortion restriction bills being heard together in the RI House Judiciary committee. We know these bills will do nothing to help empower Rhode Island women to plan their families nor help women prevent unintended pregnancies. Rhode Island already receives a D+ grade from NARAL and has some of the most stringent abortion laws on the books in New England.

We NEED your help to fill the hearing room, to testify as a Rhode Island voter - and your presence as a supporter of reproductive justice! If you can’t join us for the hearing, contact your state legislators ( and let them know that is enough is enough, these bills don’t belong in the Ocean State and we should invest in family planning programs, not restrictive policies that come between a woman, her physician and her private medical decisions.

The bills being heard are available online on the RIGA website at: and include egregious legislation that would:

• Mandate through state statute that a woman undergo an ultrasound prior to having an abortion
• Attempts to use fetal heartbeats to bestow personhood
• Banning abortion coverage in the state health exchange even though commercial health insurance plans have covered abortion for decades
• Create additional laws around late term abortions which are already in place on the federal level

Together we can stand up and say Not in Our State! Help us tell lawmakers that Rhode Island cares about reproductive justice and we won't stand for abortion restrictions in the Ocean State.

**Meet us in the RI State House, 2nd Floor outside the Library, you will then be redirected to the hearing room or overflow areas**

    Hello All,
I got there a few minutes late and was forced into the overflow area which was fine, I just feel bad I didn't have a chance to connect with you all. It was an interesting evening. From there I went to a political fundraiser and was vocal about what I had witnessed. We can only raise our voices and hope reason prevails in all things. Take care!

Exhausting (bring cush for tush next time). Educational. Confusing. Depressing. Inspiring. Necessary.

How does a politician know better if a woman should have an abortion than the woman herself?

If anyone has any questions on specific legislation, let me know and I'll get back to you asap.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
