This bill would protect pregnant workers by requiring employers to offer reasonable accommodations to these employees, such as allowing them to carry a water bottle, allot them extra bathroom breaks, and giving them time to sit during a long stretch of standing. These accommodations are of no-cost or low-cost to the employer and are important to enable women to continue working while maintaining a healthy pregnancy. The federal laws that are currently in place have not done enough to protect these women and eliminate pregnancy discrimination in the workplace. This is proven by the numerous court cases women have lost against their employers across the country. When women are victims of this discrimination they are being forced to take unpaid leave from their jobs or work in conditions that are unsafe to them and their babies, causing unnecessary emotional and financial stress.
