I want to just go ahead and pick a time and place for this. It's a great idea, and one we should be doing. If you give me some ideas on dates, I'll pick one and post it. I know of at least two people in the group looking for just this kind of thing.

Hey all,

I'm new to the Humanist of Rhode Island group, and am excited to get involved.

I've been talking with Steve about forming a Humanist Study Group. This would meet separately from the monthly service day.

For those who are interested, here is an online scheduling poll to help us decide on a first meeting.

For the first meeting, we thought it would be fun to show the film Religulous, comedian Bill Maher's exploration of belief in America.  I've never seen it, but have heard from many that it is wonderful.  We could even post the viewing publicly in order to attract new folks who may be interested in the humanists of Rhode Island chapter.

Then, after the movie, if there are new folks, perhaps Steve or someone could do a quick little intro of the organization, and then we could collectively decide how to structure the Study Group.  An idea is a monthly meeting, either watching a film at the meeting and then discussing, or reading a humanist/atheist book ahead of time and having a discussion.  My thought is that it would be cool if we rotated who choose the book or movie, and then that person lead the discussion for the meeting.

So, if you are interested in the idea, please fill out the doodle poll linked above.  If you have any questions, let me know.  once we have an idea of how many are interested and what day seems to work for folks, we'll a) book a place to show the movie, b) send an email confirmation out that you can forward to friends who may be interested, and c) post it to Facebook, Craigslist or wherever might attract some attention.

Thanks,

Craig
