At a time when many are disillusioned with big banks, big business, and growing inequality in our country, employee ownership offers a real solution for workers and communities. Tonight’s film, “Shift Change”, visits the 50-year-old network of cooperative businesses in Mondragon, Spain, and thriving examples of such businesses in the U.S. The film shares on-the-ground experiences, lessons, and observations from the worker-owners on the front lines of the new economy. Back in March, a Moyers and Company segment on alternative capitalism with economist Richard Wolff, featured clips from “Shift Change”. For film details and the trailer, go to http://shiftchange.org/.
Program is co-sponsored by Greater Oak Park Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Join us for the screening and discussion with Dr. Bill Barclay, financial services expert and activist with DSA and CPEG, and Dr. Peg Strobel, activist with DSA and the Oak Park Coalition For Truth and Justice. They will be sharing insights about some of the pros and cons of coops and other business ownership arrangements. We welcome audience participation and all points of view.
