Re: [Humanists-of-the-Treasure-Coast] Meetup details changed: Humanists of the Treasure Coast

P.S. to Joe --- I had a message from you a couple of days ago in which you addressed me as, I think, Juliette? It was in reference to texting and recommending calling instead.

BTW, I spoke at length with Phil the evening before last and got a packet of materials into the mail for him yesterday. He indicated you'd dissuaded him from showing a DVD, which I totally backed-up. It's still challenging with him re: what we as facilitators are and are not encouraged to do, what our role is (direct conversational traffic and present the SMART exercises, guide people through them ... vs. lecturing on alcoholism, the science, the "why" a program such as AA doesn't work, debating the word "choice" and its potential baggage, etc.).

If there is any additional influence you might have in this regard, I ask that you use it! It will only help Phil be more successful as this group's leader. Plus, IMO and based on a year of intense involvement with SMART, I believe Phil (and his support group) would benefit from him spending time with the online community, to get a more comprehensive understanding of how various issues and concerns get handled by those more experienced than is he. I've encouraged him individually as well as within the group of Fla. facilitators that I assist, but he doesn't seem to have taken advantage of this rich resource.

Thank you again for all the support you have provided Phil through this effort to establish SMART in Vero Beach. As of now, I am planning to attend the JB Humanist meeting, although as always, I won't know if I am up to it until much closer to meeting time.

Cordially, Kacie  (oh, and I appreciated your considered response to my last e-mail; I apologize if I came across at all snarky ... too much going on right then for me)
