Jason and I are members of a humble two-person team walking in the Dipsea Hike for Zero Breast Cancer. I thought it would be fun to open up our team to any of our fellow HH Hikers who would like to join us.
I can register team members for free through August 30th. (We have already met the fundraising requirements.) You can also register as an individual through the day of the event. Either way, we would love to have you on the trail with us.
The hike starts at 9:00 and open registration starts at 8:00 (for any of you who may choose to join us last-minute.) We will be on the corner of Throckmorton Ave. and Old Mill Street, in front of the Old Mill Elementary School at 8:30; we can meet there and all walk over to the park together.
The course is approximately 6 miles, starting and ending at Old Mill Park in Mill Valley. We will climb the (in)famous Dipsea stairs, then complete a loop that includes the Sun, Redwood, Panoramic and Cypress Trails. I've spoken with one of the organizers, and she told me Whole Foods and Three Twins Ice Cream will be providing lunch and dessert in the park during the post-hike festivities. We can have a picnic in the park, or, since we will be in downtown Mill Valley, venture out and have lunch or brunch. We're open.
Zero Breast Cancer is a prevention-oriented group that studies, in particular, the reason breast cancer rates are higher in Marin County than the rest of the state and country. They partner with leading researchers in the Bay Area, at the University of California San Francisco, the Kaiser-Permanente Division of Research and the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory to identify environmental factors and the role they play in breast cancer and breast cancer recurrence. I am doing the walk in honor of my cousin Rachel, who is a two-year survivor.
