I belonged to a writing/critique group before I moved to Huntsville. Brutal honesty made all the members better writers. Well, maybe not brutal, but you get my drift.

I have moved out to Union Grove, so it's quite a drive for me. I would LOVE a critique group, but if I make a 100 mile round trip and I'm the only one to show up (as happened last time) I'm going to be really upset. Are people SURE they're going to attend?

Email, not snail mail.

I'm the guy who just moved from the Pensacola area (Seminole, Alabama) to Huntsville and suggested a critique group. If there was one already going I was not aware of it. What we did there was send everyone on the mailing list a copy of whatever, 15 pages max, no later then midnight Saturday. We met Tuesday evening, which gave everyone time to read the submissions. No more than four people could submit, and who they would be was decided at the meeting. It sounds complicated but it worked well. If that sounds workable to the group, I suggest we kick it around at the meeting on the 24th. Reading five pages and immediately discussing works, but leaves no time for thoughtful review. That said, I will bring five pages with copies as Jeremy suggests.
"Don't try to tell us how you did it up north" does not apply to deep south Alabama people.

Write-ins: Join other writers in a quiet, distraction free environment and get your stories, poems, blog posts and more from your head to your hard drive or notebook.
Critiques: Get together to read each other's work and offer constructive criticism and praise.
Discussion: Share writing knowledge with each other, whether techniques, tips, and tricks or just personal experience with pitfalls and predators.
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
