The hike to Jug Island beach is mostly easy with a few intermediate sections. It's very rewarding with a great lookout spot, and, when we get to the beach, beautiful views over the island and Indian Arm. This is the second time we'll do this hike, last year we had a good sized group and everyone had a great time! We'll be meeting at 11am at the trailhead located behind the covered picnic area at Belcarra Regional Park. Bring good hiking shoes, water, and some lunch for the beach if you'd like. This is a shorter (2.5-3 hours there & back), but real hike and sandals etc won't be suitable.
If you are travelling from Vancouver/elsewhere in the LM please indicate in/update your RSVP whether you need a ride or can offer a ride from your location or nearby. If you’re offering, please let everyone know how many spaces you have in your vehicle & where you can pickup from. Riders, please bring along some gas money to give to your kind driver, we'll leave you to negotiate the amount among yourselves.
It is highly recommended that you print and carry with you a set of directions to the trail head. Your destination should be entered as Belcarra Picnic Area, Belcarra Regional Park. I've also posted a Google Maps link below for directions from Port Moody to our meeting point. Please note it is important that you turn off Bedwell Bay Road on to Tum Tumay Whueton Drive so that when you arrive you can get into the parking lot. If you continue on Bedwell Bay Road, you will arrive in the village of Belcarra and will not be able to access the parking lot. You will have to drive all the way back to the turn off for Tum Tumay Whueton Drive and make your way back to the park.
Here are a couple of links for more info & directions from Port Moody to the trailhead:
The Meetup is run by volunteers and by signing up for this hike you acknowledge that we are a group who look out for each other but we're all responsible for ourselves and our own safety :)
Lastly, I l know not everyone reads the comments but if you are looking for/offering a ride please read them. Also, if there are any updates on the day of the hike we will be posting information there so please pay attention to them. The comments can be really useful for last minute info & helping people out who may be lost. Thanks folks!
See you next Sunday at the trailhead!
