Popular Science Innovation Award Won by Meetup Members--Lessons to be learned

Our team at Zivix LLC followed up with the editor of Popular Science Magazine after getting notice of their innovation competition from this Meetup Group and ended up being one of the winning candidates, published in the magazine!

The product we're working on is a mini digital guitar called the, "Jamstik" which senses your fingers through IR sensors and can do some amazing things when paired with an iPad, iPhone or computer; with the added benefit of fitting in your backpack.

Come hear and experience the inventions behind Zivix and the entrepreneurial journey of our President and founder, Dan Sullivan who will join us.

Zivix is a software developer, publisher and technology company focused on music education and entertainment combined with our patented touch sensing technology.

Based in downtown Minneapolis, Zivix has developed a multi-patented fingertip-sensing technology for use in real instruments and peripheral devices. Our technology provides the Next-Gen bridge for accessible musical interaction through learning, entertainment and gaming opportunities.

We have created a real guitar and a mobile peripheral device that can “see your fingers” in real time on mobile tablets, smartphones, and Pc and Mac computers. We can teach and entertain with our companion software.

Our devices work with Garage Band in a more tactile manner and any core midi applications. It’s time to bring a string instrument into the digital age.

It's amazing what one little connection can do; (the email to the Meetup group) the award has given us a huge boost in credibility and press attention.  Here's the PopSci Article online:

We're currently running an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to secure funds for final stage prototyping and manufacturing setup.  The Jamstik will retail for $300 but backers can pre-order for under $200 if they act fast.

About the Meetup Group

Meet other entrepreneurs and independent product developers.   Bring your questions and "group-source" the answers.  Hear from specialized experts willing to share their insights.  Get energized and stay motivated to pursue your goals.  Relax and have a beer and interesting conversations.  Participants have found clients and collaborators through this Meetup.

Software, electronics, life sciences, med tech, services, products, materials, designs--innovators of a wide variety of value propositions participate. Both for-profit and non-profit entrepreneurs participate.  Many are starting their second or third business.  A partner in McKinsey & Company (NYC) turned up one evening. We have enjoyed meeting people from China, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Italy, India, Bangladesh and other countries.  Many are newcomers to Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Multi-generational, our age range has been 20 to 70+.  Several investors make periodic visits for those of you looking for capital.

RSVPs on the Meetup website don't include participants from our hosts personal email list and LinkedIn groups.  Many regulars just show up.  We don't cancel a meeting due to low RSVPs on Meetup.  Our largest attendance was about 20 people, but I've enjoyed smaller groups where I get to hear more from each person.

Let the host know what kind of expert you would like to have at a future meeting and feel free to refer speakers.

Very enlightening look at innovation and the process of failure to success on the "JamStick."

Dan Sullivan is an inventors inventor. If you are an inventor or an entrepreneur, this meeting is for you.

After a career in music synthesizer design, Dan founded Visual Circuits (VCC) in 1993, a market leader in digital video technology. VCC technology was installed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Epcot Center, Best Buy and Walmart. In 1999, he won the THEA (Themed Entertainment Association) Award for Outstanding Achievement in “Breakthough Technology”. Dan sold the company in 2005 and founded Zivix returning to his love of electronic music technology. Dan has a BSEE in electrical engineering from WPI.
