Thanks to those who got there in the morning to get in line to get us all good seats (since saving spots in line was allowed amazingly). Appreciate it!

Dang! We could've gotten in if we'd been there at 5 p.m., as we'd originaly planned! I guess we overestimated the number of people who would be there standing at attention starting in the way, way morning! Had a good luncheon with a bunch of friends at a Fusion restaurant in town, though, which was an alternate treat. But I do regret not getting to see Hawking today.

Really intimidating that folks are lining up at 8 am for an 8 pm lecture. Not my thought of how to spend my day. It's like this: if I knew I had to line up and wait all day for a visa out of a war area, you bet I would make that much effort and more. But to MAYBE be able to get into the hall, or maybe just the overflow hall, to hear a mostly pre-recorded robotic voice utter pronouncements, many of which will most assuredly be over my head--not so much determination. I don't know if CalTech will make the video available to the rest of the world, after the lecture... but maybe...

Won't be making it after all but I was lucky enough to see him speak a few years back when I worked at Caltech. Hope y'all have a great time!

I'm FINALLY coming to an event :)

    April 15, 2013

I am planning on being there at 8 am, I really do not want to be there only one there all day alone, it would help a lot if I had some company and able to leave the line that will start forming at that time. It would help if people also comment on what is the earliest they will be able to arrive so we can coordinate :)

I'm interested in carpooling and sharing costs, less interested in being the driver. I live in Upland right off Mountain 210 exit and can meet where's convenient. Anyone ready to coordinate carpools?

Hi Chris! I can stop off and pick you up if you want. Me and my passenger will be coming from Ontario.

Is anyone currently going from the "High Desert Half" of this group? I am very super ultra interested in this but would like to find a carpool opportunity before I commit with a Yes.

    April 10, 2013

  • JOAN

I'm really interested. We probably will have to get there really early to get tickets, because it will be mobbed. Not only is it Hawking, but it is free. Everyone and his dog will want to attend. I suspect that we won't be able to pick up tickets early, leave for dinner, and come back, because they will want to assure themselves that no one is coming back 2-3 times to pick up tickets for others. Probably we will have to line up and stay in line, and get our tickets shortly before the performance. Box office will probably have a good idea of how early we need to be there to be likely to get in.

      Hi Joan,
I'm in Redlands and am interested in carpooling to this lecture, I also don't mind being the driver.

Oh, HECK ya! Telling my hubby! I've been dreaming of seeing Professor Hawking in person, someday, if not getting the chance to meet him. Heck, I'm not even sure If I could find it in myself to be coherent enough to even attempt holding a conversation with the man, I'd be so fan-girling! LOL I'll just respectfully listen and grin the entire time. Sweeeet.

Now, If I could get a chance to hear Jane Goodall... I missed the first chance when she came to my hometown. *pouts*
