I am an empiricist, I accept as true only what there is evidence for, evidence as determined by peer reviewed science. If I call myself an atheist, then I would have to apply a million other labels to myself describing all the other beliefs for which there is no evidence.
Social connections, enlightened conversations, and conversation where I don't have to filter out words that might offend someone's strongly held beliefs that are not evidence based.
I've got to get in the company of people who are capable of observing, thinking, and learning, not just about something such as work, but about what life is.
I hope the elections of July 2013 don't change this group. I feel bad that my wife and I were unable to vote. Tina's mom died last month and we had to clear out her apartment this weekend. Things were too hectic this weekend but that is not the only reason we failed to vote, in my opinion. For one, we live in San Bernardino and the 3 voting stations were all at least 20 miles away. Oddly, the voting station in the group's home town was not even posted on Meetup ! Saturday, we called the Coffee Klatch in Rancho Cucamonga and they could not confirm to us that voting was underway, so we didn't risk driving 50 miles for naught. I don't have a clue as to who I would have voted for anyway, I never saw any information on candidates posted on Meetup. All of this has been very disappointing, but frankly, I thought the IEAA was just fine without elections. My message to all of the complainers about how the IEAA is run. If you don't like it, don't join it. Start your own Meetup group.
