Machine Learning in R(60 min.)
Shlomi LifshitsTel Aviv University
Given its strength in data analysis and visualization and the availability of algorithm implementations, the R language is an ideal platform for machine learning. The talk will include a minimal introduction to R and a demonstration of applying machine learning algorithms in R.

Automatic Predictive Modeling - (60 min.)
Prof. Jacob Zahavi, Tel Aviv University
We are developing the next generation of data mining software, focusingon predictive modeling. Written in R, the software encompasses the entirerange of the model building process including sampling, data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis, feature extraction, feature selection, modeling, knowledge evaluation, scoring, and decision making and reporting. What distinguishes our software from other data mining packages is ourinnovative rule-based expert system approach for addressing the featureselection problem which allows us to solve this most difficult problem ofbuilding large scale models in a completely automatic way.
In this talk, we describe the model building process of the software andprovide a demo of it.

Rapid (way to become a) Miner - (2 Sessions of 45 Min)
Eran A. & Eran B.
Intel Advanced Analytics
This talk will provide you the basic knowledge on how to use one of the leading open source Data Mining Tools – RapidMiner (
Leveraging the CRISP_DM methodology we will present a creation of E2E solution with RapidMiner.

RapidMiner is unquestionably the world-leading open-source system for data mining. It is available as a stand-alone application for data analysis and as a data-mining engine for the integration into own products. Thousands of applications of RapidMiner in more than 40 countries give their users a competitive edge.

A bit late but thanks for organizing this event, and of course to the presenters. As for me, I got disappointed from the small role of 'Big Data' considerations in the lectures. I hope that a future meetup could fix that.

Just wanted to say thanks for organizing this, it was an interesting event!
If possible, perhaps consider some networking time for next meetups - we are currently looking for machine learning experts and data scientists, and I would welcome a chance to get to know more of the people who attended.

Great presentations. Clear and informative also for people not within the field (i.e. me).

Data miners vote - and the result is a tie between RapidMiner and R:
And, coincidentally, RapidMiner and R are the tools to be discussed in this meetup.
