Welcome and quick update about Couchbase (WebEx)
Sharon Barr, VP of Engineering, Couchbase
Navigating transition from relational to nosql database (WebEx)
Dipti Borkar, Sr. product manager, Couchbase
While the hype surrounding “NoSQL” (non-relational) database technology has become deafening, there is real substance beneath the often exaggerated claims. “NoSQL” database technologies have emerged as a better match for the needs of modern interactive applications with cost-effective data management. Developers accustomed to relational database technology need to approach things differently. In this presentation, I will focus on distributed document databases: the main characteristics and the differences between distributed document-oriented and relational databases.
Q&A
This would be more of an intro to one important slice of the NoSQL world. Specifically, the one on distributed databases for interactive web apps. There are other systems that specialize in availability or analytics (for instance, Couchbase works well with Hadoop). Glad to answer any other questions-- note the Couchbase forum here: http://www.meetup.com/IGTCloud/...![]()
