George the dog, John the artist

Thurs Sept 19th again - save the date!

Those of you lucky enough to get a spot on Curious Duke's birthday party list will kick off the evening with us by meeting at Curious Duke Gallery at 7pm. After congratulating Eleni Duke and seeing some of the curious art over a glass of bubbly, we're heading down to another event, the private view of "George the dog, John the artist". The time for this is 8pm, so the meeting is at the Shoreditch High Street venue with those of you who come straight there.

Street Art London brings us a show by John Dolan, who they name as one of East London's most notorious artists. For the past three years Dolan has sat every day with his dog George on Shoreditch High Street documenting the surrounding architecture, elevating the old, decrepit buildings that are so often ignored and under-appreciated.

An interesting facet of Dolan’s work is the way in which he documents the street art and graffiti that came to make Shoreditch the cultural capital it is today. For this exhibition, he has worked with some of the world’s best street artists including ROA, Steve ESPO Powers, Sever, Gaia, David Walker, Stik, Remio, Nomers, Maser, Thierry Noir, RUN, Zomby, Christiaan Nagel, Phlegm, Ian Stevenson, Martin Ron, Liqen, Dscreet, Pablo Delgado, MadC, CEPT, C215, MadC, BRK and many others. A street artist in the traditional sense of the word, Dolan identifies with this new generation of street artists and them with him.

These artists have collaborated with Dolan by working directly onto the walls of his drawn cityscapes, creating unique pieces. Ostensibly a solo show for Dolan, George the Dog, John the Artist is also introduced as one of the biggest street art group shows of recent memory, bringing together representations and direct interventions of works by a number of different artists.

This event is a private view and is for members only - please do not RSVP if you haven't paid the annual fee.
