We propose a double date for the following Friday, with a gallery visit and street art walk - all in one.
We'll meet at Stolen Space's new Brick Lane location (where some of us have already seen their anniversary exhibition a few months ago), to visit a solo show by Meryl Donoghue, "I thought to have been gone by now...". Donoghue is a 2012 graduate of the Slade School of fine art, and her work comprises of a collection of large-scale gyclee prints, depicting a series of strikingly lit human/animal hybrids arranged in black space. These images are digital creations which were born from pencil drawings, transferred from page to screen and then manipulated. The final images possess a sense of magical reality, underpinned by the suggestion of something more sinister and foreboding.
The lovely Maria Domenica (long time IKWIL member and associate) has kindly agreed to walk us through the show, so enquiries and questions are more than welcome.
From there, we are going on a casual walk down Brick Lane, to see some of the legendary street art and spot the new arrivals in the area. I will be your guide for this one, so I expect everyone to contribute with curiosities and observations as we look at how public and private space gets appropriated through art.
The visit and walk are only open to full members, so please make sure you've paid your annual contribution before confirming participation.
