Some of the world’s most famous street artists — actually, pretty much all of the world’s most famous street artists — come together for a grand exhibition this week, in a former Victorian factory in Shoreditch. The likes of Banksy, Blek Le Rat, Shepard Fairey, Roa and Sweet Toof and 28 others will show off pieces inspired by the work of older masters and muses.
Street art reworkings of classic art are nothing new, but the notion seems to be reaching a crescendo at the moment. During the summer, nine street artists reinterpreted Gustav Klimt pieces, while London’s Stik (not represented here) worked his way around some of Dulwich Picture Gallery’s treasures.
The Urban Masters exhibition is organised by Opera Gallery and the entrance is free.
The sponsors of the show had their own private event tonight so we weren't welcome in, but some of us had a great walk and ended up seeing William Bradley's opening at Ebb&Flow gallery. I still strongly recommend you go see the Masters show if you get the chance, it's on until Sunday. We'll probably head down on Saturday after Maurizio Catellan.

hi suman, thanks for your note, we'll probably be meeting outside the venue and go in together. this group is very much about getting to know everyone else so we try to do that with every event. in case you're late or you have trouble spotting us just give me a call, 07788255667, cheers, sabina

hello all! this sounds like a most promising event, very much looking forward to it. haven't been to a meetup before and wondered a bit how it works -- whether ikwil members actually meet somewhere at the event, or whether one simply turns up and enjoys the exhibition. at any rate, if anyone would like to get in touch, i would be pleased to hear from you ([masked]).
