An Appetite for Wonder - An Evening with Richard Dawkins + more

Join world-renowned evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins as he presents his first-ever memoir, An Appetite for Wonder, in conversation with Professor of Biology, Jerry Coyne. The author of such seminal works as The Selfish Gene (dubbed “the best work of popular science ever written” by the New York Review of Books) and the atheist treatise The God Delusion arrives at NWU to launch this chronicle of his own intellectual awakening. From birth to the halls of Oxford, trace the development of the man the London Evening Standard called “one of the most outstanding intelligences in modern science.”

Books will be available for purchase at the event.

There will be a book signing following the Q&A.

Yes, Thanks for your competent (yet necessarily assertive) driving Tom. Kyle and I both had a great time. I loved seeing a little of Northwestern's campus and enjoyed hearing Dawkins. Great to meet everyone!

Absolutely wonderful. Casual format seemed to agree with Dr. Dawkins.

Yes, thank you, Tom. That was a LONG drive! Had a wonderful time from start to finish...3:00pm till 11:30pm. Thanks, too, to Kathleen and Kyle for getting in line so fast, which enabled us to get our books signed. And thanks to all who took pictures!

Hi everyone, I'm new to your group. I just bought tickets for myself and my son Kyle (16). He is a huge fan of Dawkins. If he's up for it, it would be great if we could ride with you. Do you still have room? Otherwise, I'd be up for a caravan. (Can't wait til he wakes up in the morning and sees the tickets taped to his mirror!)

We have room. Meet at Walmart just after 4?

      October 3, 2013

Does anyone know where to meet at Cherryvale? And the time?

I find the Highlander- now Schnucks parking lot to be the easiest to enter/exit when carpooling ( corner of perryville and Harrison you can either enter from perryville or the same drive by the mall enterence off Harrison. They are open 24 hours vs mall and have a gas station. I will wait for Tom to confirm. I am flexible with time also.

Or, depending on where in Mac Park, I can pick you up

Tom, I can be at your house by 3:30, if everyone would like to leave a little earlier.

  • Kathy K.

Tom, I am in Machesney Park, but if you still have room in your van, I would love to carpool and can be at the Cherry Valley Mall...so I can be passenger No. 5...<3 Kathy K.

Driving from my house in Roscoe to Evanston is a solid 2 hours, if everything goes right. We should leave 3 hours early, giving us time to grab a quick bite along the way, pee stop, etc. Therefore, I will be leaving my house at 4pm. I can pick up Janet (and anyone else from that side of town) at Cherry Valley Mall parking lot at 4:30pm.

    It's a 180 mile trip. At 20 mpg, and $3.50 per gallon, that's $32 for gas. With 4 going, it's $8 each for gas.

If y'all want to leave a bit earlier, so we can have a more leisurely dinner, maybe look around the campus a bit, let me know. I can leave earlier if we all agree / can make it.

I am driving to the event in my van. It holds 7 passengers. Pam is going with me, so there are 5 seats left. Tickets to the event are just $10 (general admission), $5 for students. They may go fast. We bought our tickets this evening.
