Hi. I'm an artist here in Vancouver. I live in one of the city's few Live-Work buildings, and I'm busy as hell. This is the main reason I haven't started a group, as I feel I've already taken on a bit too much.
However, there are a lot of illustrators in town who are looking for SOMEthing, so I thought I would direct your attwention to two associations that are already running...
One is called CAPIC. Canadian Association for Photographers and Illustrators in Communications. The president is a good friend and colleague of mine, and at the moment it is primarily photographer-based. He is (they are) looking for more illustrators so that he can bring more events for illustrators to town, such as the Flatstock poster exhibition, for example...This is a Canada wide, established association. If you are interested to learn more, go to www.capic.org or http://capic.org/contact.html to send an email.
The second association is called VACA, the Vancouver Artists' Collective Association. This one is newer, and covers all genres from painters, photographers and illustrators to musicians and dancers. Its primary function is to unite Vancouver artists with news, forums, events and opportunities, and to act as a 'home base' from which we can put together shows and exchange services while -get this- being paid properly...yes, that's right. Artists need to get paid what their work is worth, and part of that involves becoming educated, and then educating your prospective clients.

There are many paople signed up to meetup.com, but very little is happening. These are two very good places to start.
Thanks, until we meet...
