The W3C is alive with new standards activity of interest to Web globalizers. From HTML5 to CSS3, from JavaScript to Unicode bidi, support for creating international content and Web-based applications is evolving quickly. In this presentation we'll explore the changes that are available today, the status of these standards, and the challenges that remain.
Addison Phillips is the globalization architect at Lab126 (creator of the Amazon Kindle e-book reader and Kindle Fire tablet). He is currently the chair of the W3C Internationalization Core Working Group.
Admission is free for IMUG members and host staff, and $5 for non-members. IMUG membership is only $20 for the first year, $15 for annual renewal, or $100 for lifetime membership. Click here to join, renew or pay a single non-member event fee via PayPal. Cash and checks also accepted at our events. http://www.imug.org/imug-membership-and-event-fees.htm
Please RSVP via Meetup by 5 PM the Monday before the event to help IMUG and our hosts prepare badges for you in advance. After that time it's still OK to RSVP right up to the last minute, as that will help us ensure enough seats for everyone! http://events.imug.org/
Many thanks to Zoli Stekkelpak and the Google i18n intergrouplet for hosting IMUG events at Google! For detailed directions, maps, parking info, nearby restaurants and more, see http://www.imug.org/google/
The Twitter hashtag for IMUG events is #IMUG408, honoring Silicon Valley's main area code. Yes, we'll be in 650 this month, which used to be 415, at the Googleplex, which used to be SGI. It's still 408! :-) Follow @i18n_mug: http://twitter.com/i18n_mug
Addison gave an excellent presentation surveying the recent advances in internationalization standards relevant to the Web, not just those of the W3C, but related ones as well. It is good to see the progress that has been made and the attention to high quality publishing and especially the attempt to meet vertical and RTL requirements of the languages of Asian and the Middle east. Well done Addison!

Hi folks,
No public webcast, but if all goes well the Google TechTalks team will post a recording to YouTube within a week or two after the event.
Google employees inside their network can join us remotely and ask questions in real time.
If and when it's on YouTube, I will post the link here and in our regular emails, tweets, and posts.

Is there something like a recorded stream of this event? Would love to join, but location-wise and timezone-wise it's not possible, unfortunately (being based in Munich).
