IOToronto Hardware Startups (New Year Kickoff!)

It's time for the first IOToronto meetup of the year!

If CES was any indication, the industry is really heating up with some great products announced.   If you've been thinking about making something, now is the time to start!

I'm hoping to see all the entrepreneursdesigners, engineers* at this one!

I hope to have 2 startups pitching their new hardware products:

1) 7:45pm (confirmed) Demo by Gesturesense.com

There will be a live sensor demo and they will be talking about their imminent kickstarter projects

2)  8:00pm (confirmed) RFID Lightning talk by Kevin Chen

1) Start with RFID history, current security status.
2) RFID research devices: Proxmark3; NFC-Mobile phone.
3) Real world LF, HF, NFC cards analyze (Videos; Live demos).
4) Tips of how to protect our privacy will be given in the end.

Stuff we talk about:

1) Wireless transmission technologies (zigbee, ip, bluetooth le)

2) Open Source Hardware (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc)

3) Hardware/Software connectivity techniques and software

4) Sensor technology

5) other cool stuff???

I'm currently working with all these technologies for SensorSuite so if you've got questions about any of the above I'll be glad to point you in the right direction for your own projects..

>>> Applications are open for startups looking to pitch their stuff to the crowd .. please contact me if you're interested in presenting!

Hey all, I am planning to come in from the Hamilton/Burlington area for this tonight. About me: recent grad from NASA's Singularity University, currently hacking on 3-D printer / Arduino / Raspberry Pi stuff and looking for partners in crime. You can see some of my creations here: http://www.jenniferturliuk.com/portfolio/making

Oh cool - that's similar to what I'm looking at. Have you done anything fun with it? It looks like you have to load a software stack into it.

Let's talk tonight. I don't look anything like Léon, except I do need a shave & have glasses.

wish i'd known about this earlier - i've been working on an update to the gloves we used for super street fire (http://site3firearts.ca/super-street/fire) that have an atmega32u4 with lipo battery charger and RN-XV radio for streaming IMU (MPU-9150) data to a laptop for gesture recognition.

it's not a startup though, it's an open source project. some details at http://propaneandelectrons.com/blog/first-real-surface-mount-design-and-assembly. just posting all the links and stuff here because people seem to be interested in this kind of stuff/

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
