WordPress Security 101: Hackers, Scoundrels, and Villains, Oh my.

Have you ever wondered about Word Press Security? Well if you have this presentation is perfect for you…Learn about, best practices for Setting up WordPress, How to avoid common configuration mistakes, tools and tips to tighten up your WP security, and how to fix common issues. As well as some common tools used for developing and testing WordPress in your local environment before it goes to production.

Presented by Garry McNeilly. Please note that this event is taking place at a new location (see address listed above)!!!

A little bit about presenter: Garry McNeilly started his technical career at a young age by punching the keys on his Commodore VIC 20. He was also quite adept at breaking electronics and trying to fix them. Such victims of his inquisitive mind include his dad’s 8 track. He rewired it to his train set transformer only to learn there is a difference between AC/DV voltages! On another occasion he cut the power cable to his dad’s radio just because he could not listen to Charlie Pride one more time.

After dabbling in construction, bar tending and hustling the unsuspecting customer at pool Garry found himself working at Centennial College as one of the Managers of Operations. In this role Garry was responsible for delivering curriculum that enabled his students to go out into the local community and teach them to be familiar and comfortable with the emerging technology of the time. His original 3 month contract lasted almost 3 years. It was at this point in time Garry chose to take a change in direction for his career. In 1997 Garry realized there was a gap in the supports and services that were available for small to medium sized businesses who were struggling with the emerging technology. It was this realization that drove Garry to found Kojac Consulting.

It was a great night. Garry presented a great talk on Word Press and security. The slides will be made available, I recommend downloading as the security issues discussed cover a wide range. Watch for future posts as next month we will be downtown being treated to a talk from Microsoft.

Woud love to see a current BIO for Garry showing some WP sites hes either designed and or implementing some of the security features he's going to be discussing. What versions of WP and PHP will the talk be focusing on? Hosted WP or on premise? Thanks
