Office 365 SharePoint Online for Business Solutions:
This presentation will give IT Pro's an overview of the capabilities and benefits of SharePoint online. The goal of the presentation is to give you enough information to allow you to recognize opportunities where you could use SharePoint Online to provide valuable business solutions to your customers.
New Capabilities of Office 365 SharePoint Online in 2013 Version
If you subscribe to Office 365, then as an IT Pro, you are probably well aware of the benefits of Exchange Online and Lync but you may not have a good feel for the new capabilities of SharePoint Online. With the release of the 2013 version of Office 365, the SharePoint component has been significantly upgraded in it's capability. In line with Microsoft's "Cloud First" initiative, the capabilities of SharePoint Online now more closely match the more powerful SharePoint Server rather than the SharePoint Foundation version of the on-premises implementation of SharePoint 2013.
Overview then Focus
SharePoint is a very large platform of capabilities, so this presentation will take a "breadth-first" approach. We will do a high level overview of the well known features of SharePoint such as Document Management, Collaboration, Lists, Libraries, etc. Then we will turn our attention to the new features which are focused on branding, customization and extension of the base features of SharePoint.
The New App Model and the App Store
Many of the types of customizations which where previously only possible through programming, can now be accomplished with no code or by taking advantage of the enhanced integration between SharePoint Online and Office 2013. We will look at Microsoft's new concept of "Apps" for SharePoint.
Apps can range from:
• simple customizations created by users with "Point and Click" tools
• to Apps created by Power Users using Excel and Access
In addition, SharePoint 2013 has introduced an "App Store" which allows a SharePoint Online site to be customized with Apps installed from the store. Some Apps in the App Store are provided for free from Microsoft while others can be purchased from third parties.
We will demonstrate how to create simple apps with "Point and Click" tools. Then we'll demonstrate how you can design Apps with Excel and Access and install them on a Team Site. Finally we'll show how to install an App form the App Store.
The new capabilities of SharePoint Online in Office 365 provide tools to create sophisticated Business Intelligence Solutions. Furthermore they make it possible to create some solutions which approach what could be considered basic Line-Of-Business capabilities. As an IT Pro you can provide more value to your customers by helping them customize their SharePoint Sites. You may do this directly by using the customization tools yourself or by recommending, installing and managing Apps from the App Store.
